10 Professional Sports in Cancun

Cancun is home of many sports and international competitions from around the world. A number of important games and sport events have been developed in the city. Here is a list of the professional sports that are in Cancun, when and where you can watch the various sports, where to get tickets or if you are interested on starting a sport.. where to go:

1. Baseball The court is located at the Beto Avila Stadium in Downtown. Cancun Team is called The Tigres of Quintana Roo. The first game of the season starts in March 26th until July 30th after played 107 games. The games are monday to friday at 8:00 pm and saturday | Sunday at 6:00 pm. You can get your tickets by calling +887 3108, each one will be about 20 to 80 pesos depending on your seat.
If you are looking for baseball training, Academia de Baseball ASTRA in Cancun trains kids and teenagers.

2. Soccer The most important soccer Team in Cancun is Atlante. Atlante were original members of the Mexican professional league when it began in 1943. The games vary in days, depends on the team and schedule already set on calendar. To get the tickets you can buy them at the office of the Stadium. This stadium is located in the downtown of Cancun next to the Baseball stadium.
Another famous soccer team is Pioneros. Their stadium is Cancun 86.
Many soccer players use to train in different courts of Cancun, at gyms, km 0 and the beach. If you want to start training soccer, you can find numbers and email addresses on the internet, so you can get in contact with a representative.

3. Basketball The Poliforum Cancun is the home to the Pioneros de Quintana Roo, Cancun’s local basketball team. More than 4000 people can fit in this huge stadium. It has facilities for all. The Pioneros of Quintana Roo Basketball team began 3 years ago and now are doing well both in the South-East Mexico league and also in the Mexican national league. There are no prompt games at the stadium, last one was at the first months of July.
The Cancun Challenge is a big basketball event in Cancun made each year in the hotel Hard Rock Riviera Maya, very close to Cancun. Teams and fans are treated to a spectacular all-inclusive rock star vacation with games, practices, unlimited dining and drinks, world class entertainment, and fun all in one location. Previous men’s champions include Vanderbilt (2008), Kentucky (2009), Missouri (2010), Illinois (2011), Wichita State (2012), Wisconsin (2013), Northern Iowa (2014) and Maryland (2015). Previous women’s participating teams include Arizona State, Baylor, Duke, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Maryland, Oklahoma, Purdue, Seton Hall, among others. This is a unique and incredible event you should assist to at least once in your life! The tickets to Cancun Challenge will be available at September.
There are many basketball clubs where you can train, I recommend “Casa de la Cultura”, this is one of the most important sporting federations in Cancun. You will find basketball classes from 4 pm until 9 pm. Casa de la Cultura is located in the downtown of Cancun at avenida Yaxchilán.

4. Volleyball Volley Ball is a great sport to do in Cancun. It is practiced in many schools, opening the doors to many opportunities for scholarships in universities around the world, just like soccer or american football. Beach Volley Ball in Cancun is also a professional sport, most trainings are at Forum Beach and Tortugas cause it counts with the nets and cool atmosphere.

5. Golf There are many Golf Camps in Cancun and Riviera Maya. Most Tournaments are at Bok Ta Pok Golf Camp, Puerto Cancun Golf Camp, Vidanta and others. Playa del Carmen is another golf destination located 30 minutes from Cancun in a car. You can do a little research on the internet to find a tournament or find a golf course.
The most recommended golf courses are at: Riviera Cancun Golf Club, Iberostar Cancun Golf Club, El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Club, Puerto Cancun Golf Club & Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya.. all of them count with 18 holes.

6. Artistic Gymnastics Quintana Roo was named as the best state to form a good gymnastics training team throughout Mexico. Cancun is a big part of it.
The Cancun Gymnastics Classic starts in January 5, 2017: College Competition + L3-Open +International Competition.
If you are looking for gymnastics training federations, I personally recommend CAR Gymnastics. CAR is located at Avenue Colosio next to High School ST. John’s. Many gymnasts from around the world choose CAR for its prepared training camps, exchanges and events.

7. Bullfighting Bulls are bred fighting bulls, most of them from the same bloodline not less than 4 years old. Their weight is something between 500 and 800 pounds. Most bullfighters come from Spain and Mexico to present their spectacle. “Corridas” are at weekends, so remember to buy your ticket in advance.

8. Tennis The weather in Cancun allowed to build courts in the outside and play at almost any time of the day even at night when the lights turn on. There is a court in the downtown of Cancun at Casa de la Cultura, you can rent the court for 50 pesos per hour, located at avenue Yaxchilán. The exclusive courts are at the hotels, resorts and residentials: Cancun Clipper Club, Cancun Palace All Inclusive, Carisa y Palma, Fiesta Americana Condesa, Moon Palace, Oasis, etc. Many of these hotels allow you to play and train but just if you are a guest. A recommended choice is Bok Ta Pok, a big residential with 3 tennis courts and a golf camp. You don’t need a special permission to play there and is located at the hotel zone of Cancun.

9. Surfing This is an amazing sport and Cancun offers many surfing events from around the world you can’t miss.
There is a really good surf school in Cancun called “360 Surf School in Cancun”, ranked #1 by the Cancun Surfing Association. Remember that Cancun is one of the best places to surf in the world and if you are a beginner, there are areas where the waves are very gentle and rolling for beginners.

10. Kitesurfing This can be a professional water sport or just an activity you can do while you are at the beach.
There are many kitesurfing classes in Cancun. Isla Blanca is a shorn beach ideal for kitesurfing, located 25 minutes from Cancun. You can do kite surf with not heavy winds, waves and big crowds of people at Isla Blanca because of the location. The best season is from November to April.

Bob Submarine Cancun
The amazing activity underwater to explore the bottom of the ocean without diving. This is one of the most exciting experience you will have in the ocean.

What is BOB?BOB stands for Breathing Observation Bubble and breathing underwater unit for individual use. This is a tour in which you are going to have your personal submarine (a mini sub or moto submarine), you’ll put your head inside a roomy air bubble which allows you to breath and enjoy the beauty of the natural reefs, plants and marine life at depths up to 24 meters for up to 35 minutes.

How does the BOB work?A unit BOB, is nothing more and nothing less than an auxiliary transportation to dive without the hassle of using a mask or swim effort carrying an air tank. Their procedure is very simple as it consists of a clear acrylic bubble to see, is supplied with air from a scuba tank.

The tour starts with the check-in. You just have to fill a medical form to be evaluated by the diving instructor; then you’ll receive a 10 minutes guide in Spanish and English on how to operate the machine, it’s very simple.

After all of the procedure, you and the team depart on a comfortable catamaran from the dock, arriving at the reef of Chitales between Cancun and Isla Mujeres to initiate the immersion underwater. The divers help you to get into the BOB and enjoy the beautiful marine life, instructors are constantly taking care of you.

The first thing to know is that Downtown is laid out on a grid. As far as other throughways, Calles also run east-west, with even numbers north of Juárez and odd numbers to the south.Bike, Drive, Hitch a Taxi or Bus Ride

While you can walk pretty much anywhere in Playa proper, you may want to change your mode of travel or venture outside the city. Crispy Haus Cancun

Crispy haus is a foodtruck in Cancun that opens its doors all evenings. The food is delicious and offer an american atmosphere of the 40´s & 50´s. While you are eating, you will transform into a great time listening to music of the era. It is appropiate for all ages and if you have a special event you can reserve a special day with them.

What to eat?

I have ultimately been many times and I loooove it. My best recommendations are:

Butter Beer It is well known in the Harry Potter books & movies for being a slightly alcoholic, “foaming mug that tastes” a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch! And it does but this one in Krispy House comes with no alcohol so don’t worry to let your kid have a couple Butter Beers at Crispy Haus! 😉

Crispy Fish and Chips A breaker diet choice! This dish includes delicious potato fries and breaded fish with your sided barbecue sauce.

Crispy Chicken and Chips

A similar choice if you rather chicken instead of fish!

Malteadas

The strawberry is my favorite one. It’s a Milk Shake with whipped cream on the top and a cherry. You can also ask for chocolate or vanilla. Crusty Corns

If you love sweet this is a great choice. They are sweet crusty corns with milkmaid or caramel inside. The chefs are very cool so If you like both, they can give you half and half!

Visiting Cancun on a Budget

Cancun may seem like is not most people idea of a budget destination. But it is, even if you are not blowing your cash on a resort, you could easily spend up a fortune in tours or restaurants. But you don’t necessarily have to stay in the 5 star hotel, to enjoy a trip to Cancun. Playa del Carmen is still doable if you are on a budget. I spend last month in Playa so had to maximize the fun without spending too much. So here are my top tips for saving money in Cancun on everything from entertainment and transport to food and nightlife. Things to see and do
You can easily have fun in Cancun by going to the beach – snorkel in the coral reefs, the underwater museum close to Isla Mujeres, walk across the hotels avenue, visit the Mayan museum of Cancun, do some sport activities such as biking, running or skating and meet the unique shopping malls. There are many attractions inside Plaza La Isla Shopping mall, like swimming with dolphins or the Cancun Wax Museum. Cancun also has many casinos, all of them are free to enter and you just pay 5-50¢ per game.
If you plan to do a lot of the paid activities, it might be worth investing in a package. Tulum & Xel-Ha includes everything, the visit to Tulum where you can see the only archaeological site overlooking the Caribbean Sea, enjoy the amazing beaches and take advantage of the water park of Xel-Ha, where you will spend a day of adventure enjoying natural, ecological and aquatic attractions. You will explore inlets, coves, underground rivers called cenotes, mangroves and sail along the lazy river on inner tubes. Simply a paradise for those who enjoy snorkeling and diving in unique natural spots. Cancun Mayan Jungle + Tulum is another great package where you explore Tulum, visit the cenotes and zip line over the jungle.

Entertainment
Cancun is famous for its nightlife, whether that’s going to Coco Bongo of the incredible show of Cirque Du Soleil in Riviera Maya. Advance tickets can set you back hundreds of dollars, but you can buy them online. If you want to enjoy the completely atmosphere of partying in Cancun you can take The Bongo Tour package, it will let you enjoy 3 of the best nightclubs in Cancun in one night, plus more than 6 hours with open bar.
If that’s still to pricey, the check out Daddy’O packages or Han located in the center of Cancun. Mostly locals enjoy this club. There is also Xoximilco in Riviera Maya where you enjoy the Mexican fiesta! This is a great choice to make new friends, celebrate an important event, or just be a part of this tradition of Mexico in its golden age.
When it comes to saving money on club entry, it’s easier if you’re a woman. You’ll often be handed discount flyers on the street or approached by club promoters who can get your name on the guest list.

Top city views
The city’s tallest point is the tower in the KM 4.5 of the hotel zone. For a more central viewpoint head up to Malecon Tajamar in the center of Cancun, you can see all the view of the hotels by the lagoon and on the other side the center of Cancun, taking a walk and watching the sunrise is great in here. The most popular viewpoint is El Mirador at km 19.5, there is an incredible view of the Caribbean sea!

Eating and Drinking
For cheaper dining head off Cancun center. You can find delicious Mexican food menus. If you are hungry you can enjoy one of the favorite restaurants for locals in Cancun.

Traveling around
Cancun Airport is surprisingly close to all the hotels of Cancun. The cheaper option is an airport shuttle which will drop you at your hotel. After that you can take the bus that moves around all the hotel zone for 1 dollar per person.
