What To Do In Cancun Like A Local

The ones that live in Cancun notice that you can not take all the tours and expensive activities every time of the year. More than anything because of the price. But skipping this there are a lot of activities you can do; like assisting to one of the many beaches, go to restaurants, nightclubs or more. Here is a list that I specifically made to those that are interested in doing local activities in Cancun, if you want to live here or you are a curious traveler this article is for you:

Visit The Main Malls – Las Americas, Gran Plaza, Plaza Kukulkan, Plaza La Roca y Puerto Cancun Marina Town Center

The ones that live in Cancun like me, we love to visit Plaza Las Americas cause it has a tone of stores where you can get pretty clothes, souvenirs, musical instruments and a lot more. In my opinion I think that of all mentioned the best is Puerto Cancun cause it’s new, it recently opened at the end of 2017 and it has the best brands, it is next of a lagoon where you can see the sunset, buildings inside that big land development that is Puerto Cancun, it has a Movie Theater with normal and VIP rooms, playground for kids, ice cream shops and in Christmas they decorate it with a huge Christmas tree full of ornaments and colors. Sign Up For A Gym

If you are a fit traveler looking to stay fit anywhere you go I recommend you the hotel zone of Cancun, it measures up to 23 KM of extension to travel in bike, roaller blading, by foot or however you like at any time of the day. Otherwise if you want something more private you can subscribe to a gym, the hotels count with their own gym or I would recommend the one in Plaza Las Americas named Energy Fitness.

Scuba Diving

Go To The Beach

If you are staying in a hotel, the private beaches they have are the best and are cleaner, some of them have their own volley ball courts and their own activities. For the locals the most visited beaches are: Playa Forum, Playa Marlin, Playa Tortugas and Playa Delfines.

Where To Eat

The typical mexican food is one of the reasons why tourists come to Mexico! And Cancun has many good places, I recommend you La Parrilla. The best tacos in Cancun on my opinion and many others are tacos árabes, you can also find 3 or 4 very good places in Ave. Tulum to try.

For a morning reunion of coffee, recommendatios are Marakame, Cafe Nader and Cafe Antoinette. The real drinkers of coffee go to Tradiciones Art Cafe. If you want to reserve a private transfer to this places from your hotel or home click here.

Bovinos is a Brazilian churrascaria considered to be one of the best in Cancun. For Japanese food inclusing sushi, locals and tourists love Ironi.

Nightclubs

Life is a trip in Circa 39. It is a charming place that you will love and transform in the beautiful atmosphere. The decorations comes from beach side simplicity to tropical vibrancy and charm. A good thing is that it’s located very few steps from the white sand beaches in Miami Beach. You will love to start your day with a breakfast buffet and local coffee. Tips for visiting Cancun

If you visit Cancun, there will be a lot of surprising activities and things to do. When arriving to Cancun International Airport, getting to your hotel will be faster and easier in a transfer. This will help you to avoid delays and extra payments that are higher at the airport. Book your transfer!

Cancun hotels and resorts offer many activities to do inside. The difference vary by which hotel you are staying, some have more water sports, other better pools with games, spas, beach bars, etc. There are also specific hotels specialize on spring breakers, families or adults.

But there are other activities that are not included even in the highest resort, most of the time you have to pay for those and wait for availability. These activities are: Scuba Diving, Chichen Itza, Cenotes, Tulum & Beach, Whaleshark Discovery, Xelha, Xcaret, Xplor, etc. Book a tour!

Isla Mujeres is a famous island in the Caribbean Sea located 40 minutes from Cancun. I have traveled many times, so I recommend this tips before going to Isla Mujeres. Crispy haus is a foodtruck in Cancun that opens its doors all evenings. The food is delicious and offer an american atmosphere of the 40´s & 50´s. While you are eating, you will transform into a great time listening to music of the era. It is appropiate for all ages and if you have a special event you can reserve a special day with them.

What to eat?

I have ultimately been many times and I loooove it. My best recommendations are:

Butter Beer It is well known in the Harry Potter books & movies for being a slightly alcoholic, “foaming mug that tastes” a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch! And it does but this one in Krispy House comes with no alcohol so don’t worry to let your kid have a couple Butter Beers at Crispy Haus! 😉

Crispy Fish and Chips A breaker diet choice! This dish includes delicious potato fries and breaded fish with your sided barbecue sauce.

Crispy Chicken and Chips

A similar choice if you rather chicken instead of fish!

Malteadas

The strawberry is my favorite one. It’s a Milk Shake with whipped cream on the top and a cherry. You can also ask for chocolate or vanilla. Crusty Corns

If you love sweet this is a great choice. They are sweet crusty corns with milkmaid or caramel inside. The chefs are very cool so If you like both, they can give you half and half!

What Makes Cancun Special for Living

Cancun is an incredible paradise for tourists. But I have been 4 years here and all I can say is one of the best choices I could ever done. Like in everywhere there are pros and cons and if you know how to take advantage of where you live, I wrote this article of what makes Cancun special for living:

1. Environment

I want to start to mention this before anything. The opportunity of living in the Caribbean is a great choice. Cities without too much contact with nature may get you a little tired, too much traffic and stress all the time. People in Cancun are so much in contact with sea and nature that it helps a lot to clear the mind and make us feel happier.

2. Job opportunities

If you are a chef, doctor, engineer, dentist, psychologist or any other profession, you got it! Foreigners from Canada, Europe and United States travel all the way to Cancun to be assisted by professionals. This is because the cost is 8 times lower than in their own country, specially for doctors. If you are a chef or you would like to get into the tourist area, there is a big demand for people to work in hotels. Even if you have never work and want to start your laboral life, you can get a well paid job in a hotel of Cancun.

3. Languages

If you live in Cancun, I bet your English has improved since the day you came. Living here with constant coexistence with foreigners makes you to practice a lot English and other languages like French, Portuguese or Italian. You’ll also love to learn from other cultures and traditions.

4. Activities

Just to give you a quick list of activities to do in Cancun: beaches, snorkel, dive, skate, day pass at a hotel, tours, cinemas, parties, sports, theaters and many more. There are all kind of activities for everyone except for snow and ice skate.

Cancun is a good choice to study college, specially for careers about tourism and gastronomy.
