    Legends of Ecuador.

    Cantuña’s Legend.

    Iglesia Cantuna

Cantuña has a very famous legend in Quito, capital of Ecuador, he was a very famous Indian in colonial times because he was a direct descendant of the great warrior Rumiñahui.

This Indian, called Cantuña, had much power over other Indians in the region.

Taking advantage of this, he promised to build a beautiful and large atrium to the Church of San Francisco, but his commitment to the church was doing in six months, otherwise he will not charge anything.

The work was not easy. When the delivery time of the work was nearing completion, Cantuña was desperate, and offered to provide whatever who help him to end the atrium, which was just started.

This offering reached the ears of the devil, taking advantage of the situation and introduced himself and offered to end the court that night, as long as Cantuña give his soul as payment. Cantuña accepted, and thousands of little devils began working as darkness fell on the city.

Cantuña suddenly realized how fast they worked and that his soul would be bound to suffer punishment for all eternity, so he decided to challenge the devil. Cantuña went to a corner and took a stone, it wrote in Latin: “Who takes the stone and put in place, will recognize that there is only one God and He is above all creatures in the universe.”

When the court was about to be finished the devil wanted to put the last stone, but to read what it contained could not do it and that broke his covenant.

Cantuña kept the rock forever and no one was able to complete the work. If you ever visit the Plaza de San Francisco, look what the site where the famous stone missing.

    La Dama Tapada.

    La dama Tapada

La Dama Tapada appears as a popular belief about the year 1700 in the city of Guayaquil.

This legend tells the story of a lady who appeared around midnight but only appeared to be outdated drunks up to the old cemetery, Boca del Pozo, the lower church of Santo Domingo in the city of Guayaquil.

This young woman wearing only chasing philandering between these beautiful costumes an elegant black dress and a very nice time veil covering her face, which is not allowed to be recognized by their victims.

Legend has it that the lady exuded his environment a peculiar fragrance of lilies and violets, and this enticing way and making them into a trance or hypnotized leaving and forcing them to follow her, but this character is not allowed to get close one meter. Womanizers shocked by her beauty pursued without realizing what place they were going, reaching the General Cemetery , place where the lady was about to discover her face, saying these words: You know me as I am, now wants to follow me. In moments her beautiful face was breaking up to be a skull, from which flowed foul odors. Seeing this the victims died and some were impacted by the shock, others by the stench. Very few survived those who were ranked by the popular culture as rascals. She then appeared in this way was the way to go.

  • High school trip to Guanajuato, México.

High school trip to Guanajuato, México.

This was a trip to Guanajuato with my school about 3 years ago,  going to this beatiful and historical city. We arrived to “Hotel Minero” , which was not the nicest hotel but it was comfortable for us, we live our luggage right away and head to the “Alhóndiga de granaditas” a regional museum so we didn´t waste time.

We walked from the hotel to the Museum which was really close (we walked everywhere really) and enjoy the views and took some photos. We enojed the museum, which is a very awesome building and the story about the place it´s really attractive.IMG_0333

After the museum we stopped for some icecream on our way to the next visit, “Teatro Juarez” a famous theatre everyone must visit on their trip to Guanajuato which is regarded as one of themost beautiful theatres in Mexico. We took a tour of the theatre and it was incredible, we were amazed with it. Then we started to feel hungry and decided to grab something to eat near the place, everyone went to a different restaurant , some friends and I decided to eat in a restaurant just in front of the theatre where we relax and enjoyed the food and view. Then we went to have a glance of the “Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato”, a well conserved old temple which was really close to the restaurant and we decided to go and have a look. There was a wedding happening so everything was outstanding and we where there for about 20 minutes until we realized the group was waiting for us, so we we had to run!IMG_0172

Once everyone rested it was time to go to “El Monumento al Pipila” a famous monument dedicated to “Pipila” who performed an heroic act in the war of Independence on the fire to the “Alondiga de granaditas”. It was and absolutly amazing place, it was up hill so we had the best view of the city! Once the sun went down and the city lit, we were astonished. It is a place I highly recommend to visit if you are on a trip to Guanajuato, as I said it is the nicest view of this city.

    IMG_0178

The next day we woke up early in the morning to start our second day, we were tired of all the walking and the sun of the day before, but we were excited because we were visiting the “Museum of the Mummies” that day. It was really sunny this day so the heat was terrible but once we arrived to the museum we enjoyed all the mummies and have a great time at themuseum. You need to go to these museum, is one of the best and most famous attractions in the city.IMG_0193

Later on we went to “University of Guanajuato” one of the oldest in Latin America. Which first opened in the eighteenth century as a jesuit school. The architecture of the building is really beautiful but we weren´t allowed to enter that day so we just took some photos and have a great time fooling around. We enjoyed some “Alley performances” on the evening, it is a leisure stroll along Guanajuato´s old cobbled alleys (one of them the famous “Alley of the kiss”), we walked alongside troupes of musicians dressed in 17th- century costumes. We really have and incredible time dancing, laughing and having a blast.IMG_0200

After walking all day long again we decided to go to the hotel early get dinner and go to sleep, because the next day we were going to visit “La Mina Valenciana” which is an old minewe were going to visit!

We woke up the next day, we had breakfast and then we got all our luggage into the bus to get to “La valencia” a village where the mine is located. When we arrived we got into groups, each group with one guider. They started by telling us the story of the mine and that it was one of the richest silver mines in Guanajuato. Everyone got a helmet in orderto enter the mine, which had a lot of stairs and not a lot of space , also they turned the lights off for a moment so we could see the darkness in that place, you couldn´t see a thing! It was a great experience and I think many people would like to know a mine if they had the chance.

    IMG_0187

This trip was brilliant, I had a great time with my classmates and teachers and we all enjoy this georgous city, you all need to make a trip to Guanajuato sometime if you have the time and opportunity it was a great weekend!

  • An Endless Ecuador

    An Endless Ecuador

You can travel around Ecuador easily, well here we have beach in the coast, volcanoes in the mountains, jungles of the Amazon with the greatest biodiversity in the world, and the Galapagos Island, a magical place where you can swim with sea lions, turtles, sharks, etc.

This time I’ll tell you about how amazing the Mountains of Ecuador is, where is the route of the volcanoes in the Andes, which covers all of South America from Venezuela to Corona de Fuego between Chile and Argentina.

Cuenca, capital of Azuay province a place full of mountains, natural lakes in the mountains, animals that inhabit the area.

The Cajas National Park, where are more than 170 lagoons, which create an incredible landscape from the road, where 3km further on is the Laguna La Toreadora, if you travel by land observing the landscape, it is located 5 hours of Guayaquil on the coast, with a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius which creates an very nice atmosphere .

I made this trip with the group of Tourism at my university, was an organized trip between students and the teacher, a person who really knows the country more than anyone I know. She traveled around the country in an effort to learn more about what it’s like tourism, she even lived in a community in the Amazon with the Shuar tribe, but she had to leave the community after six months on the Jivaro belief.

While we were on our way towards basin along the road right next to the Cordillera Chongon Colonche one of the mountain ranges located in the Coast Ecuador, you could see that gradually the landscape and vegetation was taking different forms and engaging the temperature which is increasingly going down slowly and suddenly you could see that we were enveloped by mountains and colossal landscapes who sincerely draw attention when you’re.

On a sunny day, if you stopped very intently on a clear day you could see what far the Chimborazo volcano, the volcano and the highest mountain of Ecuador, and the further from the center point on earth.

Once we got to Cuenca we went straight to find a hotel in which we could staying since we had booked did not receive our confirmation voucher, find a hotel near the Cathedral of Cuenca, a very quiet and nice budget priced place, had hot water, cable TV, the lobby looks very nice and elegant, included breakfast which was scrambled eggs, bread, milk, coffee, juice, fruits, jams, etc.

In the evening we strolled through the city, which has many excellent churches and colonial streets, very close to everything. A group of students was partying, another group just wanted to eat something and enjoy a quiet night and that’s Basin can do a little of everything.

The next day we all met for breakfast in the hotel restaurant to visit the Mirador El Turi where you can see the whole city as it is surrounded by mountains.

To travel to Cuenca I consider it is ideal to get moderately warm, the weather is really nice maybe just one good coat

The food … it’s just excellent amazing, they are going to enjoy good food as basin is quite normal eat well anywhere but it never hurts to make sure where to eat well before ordering food.

You can eat pork with potato, or corn tortillas bronze prepared with a coffee during the day, I tried to eat one tortilla but I ended up eating seven tortillas, it was very nice.

    Comida de cuenca

    Comida

I suggest that is a journey that can go with family or friends, the good thing is that in Ecuador everything is close to everything so traveling together is nice to appreciate together the beauties ranging from the Galapagos Islands, then scans the beaches on the coast, then why not? Take a bike ride around the volcanoes in the mountains and then into the jungle of the Amazon and see the most beautiful in the world as it is nature at its best.

Gracias!!!

  • The 3.5 mile hike in Black Diamond Mines

The 3.5 mile hike in Black Diamond Mines

Once in a vacation with my family on our visit to Discovery Bay near San Francisco, my family and I took a long walk exploring Black Diamond Mines. Better called The East Bay Regional Park District that began acquiring land for Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in the early 1970s. Today, most of the mining district is within the Preserve’s nearly 6,096 acres. The area is an ideal location for hiking, picnicking and nature study.

The day we went, it was so nice and warm outside. The sun was shining and the view was so clear.

We decided to explore the history of this lands by hiking. From 1850 to 1906, the area was known as the Mount Diablo Coalfield, the largest in California, producing more than 4 million tons of coal during this time.

         mines 3    46536_1507917372298_3315216_nmines 8

The path of these mountains to the top is fun. I was going more for the fact that I had never climbed a mountain.

This long walk came with some very narrow roads surrounded by trees and giant boulders, where you could gradually see the entire city of San Francisco in the distance at the TOP!

On the way, we were shown a slideshow of what this entire area of land used to be.    There are several pictures of a small town and all the residents. Then we were educated on what was mined and what it was used for.

mines 658653_1507904851985_4414556_nWhat I loved the most about the park was the beautiful winding road that puts you in the center of the park. From there you park and choose one of 6-8 trail heads going all different directions around the park.

You can go on your basic fire trail, single track, or explore the rocky sections of the granite rock and go climbing! Has i´ve mention before, there is beautiful sand stone rock formations.

I would recommend to bring a lunch or picnic with Friends, Family or bring your dogs (who must be leashed). You can really go a long ways and not see anyone, the place is so spacious. Just remember to hydrate and bring a camera; you’ll love looking at the pictures later.

One of my favorite activities will always be hiking, at the same time taking long walks and learning a little history, you can see amazing landscapes that are worth to see at finish the walk down the road!

  • Buceo sobre 4000 metros de profundidad

Buceo sobre 4000 metros de profundidad

    [avatar_upload /]
