The State Government of Quintana Roo announced that there is a new visitor Tax or Tourism use fee named VISITAX that every foreign tourist has to pay when visiting places throughout the Yucatan Peninsula such as Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Tulum, Bacalar, Akumal, Holbox, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen or any other place within the state.

This new tax came into effect April 1 of 2021, and it applies to all the foreign tourists vacationing in the state.

Who has to pay VISITAX?

The visit tax would be charged to all international visitors to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. With the exception to those foreigners crossing the southern border with Belize by land and those with a permanent residence.

Since when the tax exists?

The Tax or Tourism fee came into effect April 01 2021.

How much does the VISITAX cost?

The cost of this fee is $224 Mexican pesos, or $11 dollars according to the exchange rate of the day.

Where can I make the payment?

The government created a page to facilitate your payment online: VISITAX OFFICIAL WEBSITE But if you are unable to do it through the portal you can make the payment in cash at the Cancun International Airport and Cozumel International Airport.

When do I have to pay the fee?

The payment can be made before your arrival, but you won’t have to show it to the authorities until your departure, so no worries you can make it during your trip as well.

If you forgot, or didn’t have time to make it prior to your departure flight, you can be assisted at the airport through the process, so you can board your flight back home.

Do I need any type of form for the VISITAX?

You will need to fill out a short form indicating the following information:

  • The number of people traveling with you.
  • Name, age, and passport number of each individual in the group.
  • Departure date.
  • Credit card information to process online payment.

What if I’m not traveling alone?

If you are traveling on a group, or with your family you will be able to make the payment of VISITAX for the whole group in one transaction, and you will receive individual receipts for each member you are traveling with.

When will I need to present my receipt of payment?

After making the payment, the page will generate a QR code that you will need to show at one of the checkpoints at the Cancun International Airport or Cozumel International Airport prior to boarding your flight.
